Larry Coryell: Blues and Beyond
A last glimpse into the genius of Larry Coryell and his concepts
Larry Coryell, one of jazz fusion’s pioneering guitarists and also known to many as the “Godfather of Fusion,” gives one very last glimpse into his craft genius of guitar playing and an in-depth view of his artistry.
In the mid-to-late Sixties, Coryell broke down genre barriers with his eclectic, fluid playing and experimenting with melding thunderous and driving rock rhythms with spacious jazz chords.
Yet as a true eclectic, armed with a brilliant technique, he was comfortable in almost every style, covering almost every base from the most decibel-heavy, distortion-laden electric work, to the most delicate, soothing, intricate lines on acoustic guitar or phrasing and note-bending that owed as much to blues, rock and even country as it did to earlier, smoother Bebop influences.
Coryell put out dozens of solo and ensemble releases throughout the Seventies up through to the present day, recording with alongside famous names like Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Kenny Barron, Chet Baker, Stéphane Grappelli, Gary Burton, John McLaughlin, Ron Carter, Chick Corea, Paco De Lucia, Miroslav Vitouš and many other noteworthy artists of all styles.
We are proud to present to you the last guitar lesson of a true legend who set milestones and truly deserves a special place in the history books.

Larry truly is the Godfather of Fusion. He also loved teaching so I am glad that he did this. He was a great teacher and was very passionate about it. This course is called Blues but there is so much more here. I really am glad I got it!
Tracey Groves

The interactive part is extremely helpful. It’s good to be able to slow Larry’s playing right down and loop his phrases and lines. The quality is excellent throughout and the transcriptions are spot on. He takes us from the basics, and gradually introduces new ideas. The longer pieces are superb. I already knew the basic blues progression, but the longer pieces will take me a bit of time to get under the fingers. My only criticism is that I would have liked to see more emphasis on Larry’s fusion side. Otherwise highly recommended.

It’s so nice to see Larry one last time! I used to idolize him a lot back in the day! He teaches a lot of beautiful jazzy things and being able to slow videos down really helps. There is definitely something for everybody in this course.

I was really surprised finding this recent lesson with the great Larry Corryell. This course gets quite advanced and difficult right away, so be aware that you are at a certain level in your jazzguitar playing level, otherwise very good information.
